Februrary 2026 :

Planned to make a Lapis Lazuli cosplay, from the show “Steven Universe” in time for Fantasy Basel (may 2026).

I finally watched the show in its entirety with my partner and grew quite attached to this character !

Costume breakdown

The cosplay will be divided in two parts : a long maxi skirt and a halter top tied with a ribbon. The fabric I chose were quite light, as I wanted to be able to twirl around.

I used measurements for a 3/4 skirt and it looked beautiful. Both pieces will be hand sewed because I didn’t have access to a sewing machine.

As the real Lapis Lazuli stone has golden Pyrite inclusions, I have bought some golden star sequins to attach to the bottom of her skirt. This is an personalization take on her design, which as seen in the picture, is plain.

I have future plans to bring to life her pumpkin friend as well, using a big plushie as a base.

The difficulty will come from finding a good fabric match in order to make his legs…

Wig styling

Lapis has quite a voluminous hairstyle, especially at the back of her head. I wanted to recreate this with my wig by adding lots of curls and spikes.

When handling synthetic hair like in this case, the second step (teasing) is to help get rid of the shine and ensure a “fluffier” hair texture.
Then, curls are maintained through cooling down of the hair. It is important to hold the shape of the curl as it cools down, otherwise it would not work.

April 2026 :

With a cosplay convention happening in mid April (Polymanga in Lausanne), I had a burst of motivation to get this cosplay done for the event so I would be able to test wear it.

My wig felt comfortable and framed my face very nicely, I was pleasantly surprised 🙂

The character in the show has blue skin throughout all her body. I wasn’t quite comfortable painting my whole skin blue yet, but will definitely commit for a later convention !

May 2026 :

Fantasy Basel arrived much faster than anticipated ! After testing out the makeup and re-fixing my wigs, I made it to the con exactly how I imagined myself.

I had booked a photoshoot session with @allcutified_photography and the pictures really turned out so nice

PS : despite my busy schedule as a student, I even managed to squeeze in making her mirror, from the episode “Mirror Gem”. The base is 3D printed from my good friend @3dprintwarrior, and I bought the mirror part online
